Back in 2014, I came up with the idea of my own brand. It combines my design knowledge and my passion for Scandinavian history and mythology.
So here are my 4 versions of UI Viking concepts, kinda like a small evolution and to be honest that time I was thinking each of those versions were great, but now I look at them and they SUCK! But still, I want to share them.
UI Viking version 1.0
The very first version of the website, looks so funny to me right now. But in 2014, I was so proud of it, I got to a few TOPs-10 Designer Portfolio across the internet, like Creative bloq, Medium, Designspiration and many more. One day I checked my Analytics and there were like 10+k users daily, so that was the first small achievement.
Later on, I saw a few dudes copied this website and changed UI Viking to PHP Viking, UX Viking, but they looked even worse than mine, lol.
I do like the character drawing tho, I made it in Adobe Illustrator.
UI Viking version 2.0
Back in 2016, I decided to update my website and add some new look to my low-poly Viking character. So I sent him into space. All illustrations I have made in Adobe Illustrator and kept the same low-poly look & feel. I made him a costume, and it looks like a facepalm to me now. All the elements were in SVG, so the website was really fast.
I submitted my new website on Awwwards and CSSAwards but got like 7.5 and 6.5 out of 10 points. And now I’m surprised how the hell I got even that much, the design looks bad, but the idea is cool tho.
UI Viking version 2.1 (so lame)
This pink misunderstanding was a mistake and it was live for a week and then I’ve changed it back to version 2.0 and started working on a completely new look.
UI Viking version 3.0
Just realized I change the design every 2 years. So 2018. I stumbled upon the art by Ros Kovac and wanted something that way.
I hired an artist to draw my Viking’s head in an astronaut’s helmet, redesigned the entire website again but kept the space theme, just made it more realistic. Added animations and parallax effects. The result was really cool and I do love this version, but it’s time to move on.
I bet in 2 years I’ll look at my current website, and like “okay, I don’t like this and that and this shit annoys me, come on dude, let’s redesign it, again…”
